I have taken numerous moose in British Columbia with handloaded 275 gr 338 cal A-Frame bullets fired from by 340 Wby Mag. I can attest to how well they perform: devastating impact, massive penetration (no 338 cal recoveries available), and extremely quick kills.
In 2021, I had the opportunity to travel to South Africa for a Cape Buffalo hunt. I decided upon the 450gr 458 caliber bullet to be fired from my custom Ruger #1. My handloads were extremely accurate, and because I had no magazine length restrictions, I was able to load these bullets farther out of my 458 Win Mag to duplicate 458 Lott case capacity. Launched at a chronographed 2300 fps and the ability to group at sub ½ inch, this was the desired round for my purposes. I was lucky to find a trophy Cape Buffalo (scoring 41.5 inch spread) and at 70 yards and put a shot just behind his left shoulder which quartered through him and came to rest under the hide on his right hip. This was in excess of 36 inches of penetration and was detrimental to this Buffalo's well-being. I am enclosing photos of moose, buffalo, and accuracy results.
I cannot stress how well your A-Frame bullets perform. My guide asked to keep my remaining ammunition.
