- I think it really dedenps on where your going to hunt and how far you can take a shot. I use a 30-30 in california because deer are smaller. The rounds are cheaper and get the job done. I shoot a 300 win mag for deer in CO and UT. BIgger deer and they drop. Also depending where you live ammo can be limited. So i would say 30-06. Its a big bullet to take any deer and almost every ammo shop has the ammo available. (Posted on 3/19/12)
- Quick kills from my 416 rigby! Review by Bill
- Heart-Lung shots on Waterbuck and Zebra saw them stop and drop in 50 yards or less. Major bones on Gemsbuck and Red Heartebest droped them in their tracks. Easy to get velocites in the mid 2700's from my 22" McMillan Alakan Talon which makes for nice trajectory and easy to hit with out to 350 yards. Retained weight of the two bullets recovered (hit two major bones on one, shoulder to rear hip on other) were 324.5 and 325 grains! (Posted on 9/15/10)
